Selma

Selma

In the movie, "Selma", it portrays a concise and very accurate description of what African American's dealt with during the civil rights movement. The movie shows what African American's had to go through just to get the right to vote, freedom, equality, and other basic human rights found in the USA.

One example that shows these hardships, is when Annie goes to register to vote and is denied because she cannot state all sixty seven county judges, which is just ridiculous because others, who are white, do not have to do that at all. This act brought out a lot of anger in me because every American has the right to vote. No matter what race or gender you are. The man deprived Annie from her basic American right, which is just not okay. This movie really shows how the color of your skin can dictate your entire life. Equality should be a privilege to everyone. Not just white people.
Throughout the movie Martin Luther King Jr. exceeds his limits and pushes further and further for the fight of equality and what is right, not just for negroes, but for others who do not get the same equality as others. The movie portrays scenes of violence on people who have not done a single thing wrong. It is sad to see society treating others that way. It is almost a norm for whites to treat negroes so awfully and almost everyone is blind to how hurtful and inhumane they are treating these people. In my life I have witnessed not nearly as much hate towards different races, but I definitely still see segregation and discrimination in today's world. The world is still filled with so much hate, but because of new laws and punishments people do not act on it. Thankfully the United States has come a long way since then and there is, somewhat, a decrease in segregation and discrimination. Everyone in the USA is treated equal because of laws passed, but some people still continue to remain hateful towards other races.
I really enjoyed this film because it showed the honest and brutal reality of how African American's were treated during this time. It helped me get a better understanding actually seeing what they went through rather than reading about it. It brought out emotions of sympathy and made me want to do something to help. I have always admired and have had a great respect for Martin Luther King Jr. His fight to never give up until he got what he wanted is amazing to me. He is a great role model and has taught me to never give up no matter how hard life may be.
